Comedies

Comedy is a type of drama with a happy end.

Shakespeare wrote a lot of comedies, for example “Much Ado About Nothing”, “Twelfth Night” and  “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”.

A Midsummer Night’s Dream

Plot:

The play is set in Ancient Greece. The Duke of Athens - Theseus plans a marriage with Hyppolita. Two young men - Lysander and Demetrius are in love with young Hermia, who is in love with Lysander. Hermia's father wants her to marry Demetrius and as the law of Athens says that the daughter should obey her father in this question, she go away with Lysander.

Young Helena is in love with Demetrius and as her lover decides to follow Hermia and Lysander, she goes along with him. She explains her love to him, but he answers in a cruel manner. A God decides to make Demetrius fall in live with Helena. By mistake both Lysander and Demetrius fall in love with her. She thinks that it is a stupid joke and Hermia becomes confused. The God then fixes the misunderstandings and in the end Lysander marries Hermia and Demetrius - Helena.

The play includes a lot of love affairs and confusion, but it ends with a big feast and everybody is happy.

"The course of true love never did run smooth".
